Excellent Tea for a Wide Harvest

Faith and mission

Why Does Hearing the Gospel Matter?

Romans 10 says faith comes from hearing the word of Christ. People need the actual news of Jesus, spoken or otherwise communicated intelligibly, rather than only a vague impression that Christians are kind.

Good deeds and good news belong together

Compassion, friendship, and practical care matter. Yet a neighbor cannot infer the death and resurrection of Jesus simply from receiving help. Paul asks how people will believe in the one they have not heard of, and how they will hear unless someone is sent.

The message should be clear enough to understand: who Jesus is, why his death and resurrection matter, and his call to repent and believe. Translation and patient explanation are therefore acts of respect, not merely tactics.

The Spirit gives life

Reformed Christians distinguish between an outward invitation and the Spirit’s effectual work in the heart. The Westminster Shorter Catechism teaches that the Spirit enables sinners to embrace Christ freely offered in the Gospel. We speak; God saves.

That conviction should make witnesses humble and hopeful. It also keeps a business from treating impressions, clicks, or purchases as evidence of spiritual fruit.
